The Oaks Golf Club History
Originally, the “Live Oak Golf and Country Club” course opened in 1979 with 9 holes; founded by:
- Joe Akalis
- Walt Barnes
- J. Mario
- John O’Neill
- Evelyn Stewart
- Vern Zell
The back nine was added in 2000.
The course was designed by Miles Anderson of Ocala, FL, and now has (4) tees to accommodate all skill levels. The course was originally privately owned, and operated by a Board of Directors, made-up of representative club members. Some of the former Board Presidents were:
- Jerry Peterson
- Jack Delarm
- Jerry Blair
The front nine offers wide fairways, with medium size greens; while the back nine requires more accuracy off the tees, with larger contoured greens. This variety from the back to front presents a different, challenging, and yet enjoyable golfing experience each time you play. There are NO sand traps on the course, but there are (6) ponds and several DRA’s (Drainage Retention Areas).
The course also offers a Putting Green, Driving Range, and range balls (two bucket sizes) for your practice needs.
In 2016, the course changed ownership. The new owners have focused on great course conditions, restaurant expansion and improvement, and customer and member relations. If you haven’t played the Oaks in a while, now is the perfect time to come out again!
